Hosts are needed
as noted above to plan whatever events,
or none, you’d like to have.
Those who have hosted this past year are deferring to others to take
their turn. Plenty of help is at hand, and all that is needed is to
simply ask. New ideas are welcomed! If no hosts step forward, we hope
there will be boats moored at the marinas with spontaneous dockside
gatherings and “now what do we do” decisions made. It is not required
that there be an hour by hour itinerary of activities. Cohosts work best
as several heads together can come up with great ideas. Some folks just
like to come, moor their boat and have nothing else on their minds other
than a good book, and looking forward to a shared Happy Hour.
Your Boating Activities Chairperson for the 2010-2011 season is Leslie
Veres. The marinas noted have been reserved on the dates shown, so 90%
of the work is done. Call her at 425-806-9997 or email
leslieveres@hotmail.com.
General Format of a Squadron Rendezvous
 |
Generally each boat makes its own reservation at the destination
marina. However, do tell the harbormaster that you are with BSPS so he can
group us together. |
 |
Members pay for their slips individually. For our newer boaters,
squadron members who arrive before you will be more than happy to assist
with your mooring lines. Just call for “BSPS Wharfinger” on channel 78A
(low power, please). |
 |
Friday evening is often an informal dock party for the early
arrivers, with people bringing their own drinks and a plate of hors
d’oeuvres to share (sometimes elaborate, often cheese and crackers).
|
 |
Saturday usually has some type of event or planned activity, with
Saturday evening being something special, like a pot-luck dinner
(Nor/Bell) or a do-it-your-self cook-out (Steak Fry) or a special meal
(Salmon Bake) or a themed prepared dinner (D16 Rendezvous). Some boaters
arrive on Saturday morning. |
 |
Sunday is usually the departure day for the fleet (except for the
NorBel rendezvous). Breakfast may be put on by members or a brunch could
be planned, but this is not the norm. |
 |
While the squadron does charge for the Salmon Bake and some other
functions, the value is there, and the entire family is welcome and
encouraged to attend. |
Squadron Cruise to the Gulf Islands
The Squadron Cruise to the Canadian
Gulf Islands
is a very enjoyable, relaxed expedition, with much sightseeing to be taken in,
at your own pace of course. Its doubtful one could see the Islands
with any continuity in just a week, but feel free to try. Whether you dinghy to
lunch or go to one of Nanaimo’s
finest restaurants, it’s up to you. Marinas
are available as well as anchoring in an intimate cove. Just remember to
include US Passports for everyone in order to expedite your journey.
Information
on clearing US and Canadian customs is available in your
Who’s Who roster or
here.
Please contact
the
Membership Involvement Chair with any questions,
comment or suggestions as that is your key to happy
boating and memorable good times. We hope to see you at many, if not all, of our
boating activities this year.
