America's Boating Course
Member squadrons of the USPS offer boating safety courses for the public throughout the year. Since the organization of the USPS in 1914, more than 3,000,000 boaters have completed safe boating courses taught by Squadrons of the USPS. These courses are open to all members of the public, boat owners or not, sail boaters, power boaters or personal watercraft operators, and people of all ages. Courses are meant to be of interest to the entire family, and for younger boaters, there is a Children's Safety Class geared specifically for them.
Both the Comprehensive Boating Course and the One-Day class are part of the Public Boating Program. The Comprehensive Boating Course is a longer course than the one-day class and includes subjects such as chart reading and beginning piloting.
The nine-week ABC 3rd Edition course is an excellent introduction to boating on inland coastal waters such as Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. Subjects covered include the following:
Different instructors, knowledgeable in their segments, teach the classes.
The course meets the educational standards of the National Association of Boating Law Administrators, and upon completion of the course and passing the final exam, you are awarded a certificate and application for obtaining a Boater’s Card.
ONE DAY ABC CLASS
This class targets boater’s on inland lakes such as Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. The class also meets the minimum instruction for younger boaters to obtain the required Boater’s Card.
AMERICA’S BOATING COURSE 3rd Edition is an introduction to safe and fun boating. Everyone will be encouraged to continue their education and take some of the excellent advanced grades and elective course.
